“I just wanted to let you know my mare has been on Body Builder for just over two weeks now and my farrier came yesterday. She was trimmed 6 weeks ago and has always had thin soles and bad feet. My farrier was ecstatic because her capsules are growing so much tighter and her soles are far less thin. What signs do you need to look out for to spot EPM in your horse?

  • Incoordination, stiff, stilted movements, abnormal gait or lameness
  • Weakness
  • Muscle atrophy, most noticeable along the topline or in the large muscles of the hindquarters, but can sometimes involve the muscles of the face or front limbs
  • Paralysis of muscles of the eyes, face or mouth, evident by drooping eyes, ears or lips
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Seizures or collapse
  • Abnormal sweating
  • Head tilt with poor balance; horse may assume a splay-footed stance or lean against stall walls for support
